An illness suffered by one local person has been raised on the floor of the Dáil. Longford-Westmeath TD Micheál Carrigy raised the issue- saying Ireland has one of the highest rates of sarcoidosis.
He said the disease, which can affect the lungs, heart and nervous system, is not widely recognised despite having a higher incidence than cystic fibrosis. Deputy Carrigy said while not every patient experiences long-term illness, those who do can face significant ongoing medical costs:
