Roscommon town Tidy Towns Chairperson Kathleen Shanagher says the group won't be too disheartened by their results in the latest IBAL litter league published today.
The Independent councillor says while they have seen a fall in their performance she believes this is almost inevitable due to the fact that litter picks have been suspended during the lockdowns, and TUS workers are not available to help out either.
Reacting to the results today Kathleen Shanagher says the group will now focus on its work for the annual Tidy Towns Competition and the retention of the county towns Gold Medal award.
In Longford, which also saw a fall in performance, John Farrell says most of the problems outlined in the report have to do with indiscriminate illegal dumping and penalties need to be ramped up for the offence.
He also says Tidy Towns groups shouldn't all be about picking up rubbish dropped by other heedless people .
