The HSE in the Midlands is urging people to keep their close contacts to a minimum.

Counties Longford and Westmeath continue to see cases of Covid 19 in double digits, with 24 cases in Westmeath confirmed yesterday 12 in Longford.

The 14 day incidence rate in Longford is 379 and 289 in Westmeath, the second and third highest in the country.

While the rates register high due to the lower population base, the HSE says close contacts are increasing at a national level and people need to understand the importance of minimising contacts, as well as washing hands and wearing face coverings.

Speaking on Let’s Talk today, Dr. Ann Herlihy, Specialist Registrar in Public Health Midlands says there are no major cluster of the virus in Longford.
