HIQA inspectors have reported seven aspects within a nursing home in Roscommon to be below regulations.
Drumderrig Nursing Home just outside Boyle town was found be compliant in fourteen other areas and substantially compliant in six areas.
Inspectors made an unannounced visit to Drumderrig Nursing home in Abbeytown Boyle on July 22nd this year.
It followed two inspections in 2019, where significant non compliances were found including inadequate staffing levels, inadequate risk management in relation to accident and incidents, and inadequate care planning.
Unsolicited information provided to the Chief Inspector since the last inspection described concerns about staffing levels, care practice and visiting arrangements as well as a notification of the absence of the person in charge.
The inspectors found during this inspection that extensive work had been completed to address the areas of non-compliance previously identified.
The centre was though found to be substantially compliant in terms of staffing, and training, and compliant in terms of visits, personal possessions, healthcare, information for resident's individual assessment and care plans, and food and nutrition.
However the inspectors found that improvements to the allocation of staff to social care were still required, and the absence of a suitably qualified person in charge.
They also found deficits in infection control measures and how residents' rights were protected conveyed that the provider needed to rigorously monitor the service to achieve compliance with the Health Act 2007.
Since the inspection, the person in charge has returned to their post and management has undertaken actions to complete and address all areas of non-compliance.
