Granard group oppose plans for wind turbine at local company

A group has been established in Granard in recent weeks to voice opposition to plans for a wind turbine in the Granardkille area.

A planning application has been lodged by Kiernan Milling to erect a turbine as part of an ongoing expansion at its site outside the town.

A group called "Granard against Industrial Turbine" claim the proposed 169 metre turbine is "excessive" in size and would impact negatively on the development of Granard Motte and the planned Norman village project.

The group also has concerns about possible shadow flicker or noise from the turbine.

The deadline of submissions to Longford council on the application is tomorrow and a decision is due by July 17th.

Patrick McGivney says they're not against renewable energy or the local company, but they have genuine concerns about the impact of such a large structure.
