Two-hundred-and-forty adult cautions were issued by Gardai in Roscommon-Longford between 2017 and mid 2019.
A caution is an alternative to prosecution, and can be used in 20 offences such as criminal damage, public order incidents, theft, and fraud.
A number of weaknesses have been identified in the Scheme, following a review and the Policing Authority found significant challenges including weak governance, inadequate recording of data, and no formal training for members to operate the scheme.
Locally between January 2017 and June 2019, 94 cautions were issued for thefts from shops, 48 for public order offences, and 24 for minor assaults.
Between June 2018 and June 2019 - nine cautions were issued for employee or internal fraud, as well as 5 for drunkenness offences.
