New figures show Gardaí carried out more than eleven thousand checkpoints across the region during 2025.
In the Mayo, Roscommon and Longford Division, a total of 8,767 checkpoints were conducted over the year.
The Sligo-Leitrim Division recorded a further 2,730 checkpoints.
Gardaí say the checkpoints form part of a sustained effort to improve road safety, with a particular focus on detecting speeding, drink-driving and drug-driving offences.
They also aim to increase visibility on rural and regional roads, especially during busy periods such as weekends, public holidays and late-night hours.
Garda management has reiterated that checkpoints will continue throughout 2026 as part of national policing and road safety strategies.
