Bishop of Elphin Kevin Doran will start consultation with local parishes next month about the future of the Diocese of Achonry. In April it emerged Achonry will merge with Elphin, and Bishop Doran now leads both dioceses.
He will hold meetings with priests and people from both areas in September and October, with a view to planning around future developments. Achonry includes Ballaghaderreen - and local councillor Micheál Frain hopes St Nathy's Cathedral doesn't lose it cathedral status:
