A Go Fund Me page to repatriate the bodies of a family killed in a crash near Ballinasloe last week to Iraq, has raised double its original target and is now approaching €100,000.

Karzan Ahmed and his wife Shahen, as well as their nine-month-old baby Lina were among four people who died on the M6 near Poolboy last Thursday evening.

Another car hit their vehicle after travelling the wrong way down the motorway.

The organisers of the fundraiser say baby Lina never got to meet her family in Iraq, and are trying to bring their bodies back home.

The fund currently stands at €80,000 as of this afternoon and is still rapidly increasing.

In a statement on Facebook, The Kurdish Irish Society of Ireland have thanked the public for the thousands of messages, emails and donations to the fund.
