Autism support services in the Shannonside Region are severely lacking according to one parent. Kevin Sullivan cares for his 18 year old son Sean who lives with ASD and is non verbal. Sean had been in school in Castlerea over the last number of years, with Kevin praising the school for their work. However, now that he is 18 and out of education, Sean's father says the availability of support services is 'brutal'.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Kevin says while he has received funding for residential care for his son, nothing is available in the region. Kevin says the new Autism Strategy launched by the Government this week is only talk and won't help him:
