Councillor hopes Carrick bypass plans continue to progress

It is expected the road won't open until 2031.

The recently elected Cathaoirleach of the Carrick-on-Shannon MD is hopeful the proposed bypass can continue to progress. Costing up to €500 million, it involves a 6-kilometre road around the town, from the Dublin Road to the Boyle Road. This week's meeting of the LEA has heard construction won't commence until 2029 with submission to An Coimisiún Pleanála in the last three months of this year.

It is expected the road won't open until 2031. Fianna Fáil Cllr Seán McGowan says it's a waiting game:
