Irish Water had previously installed treatments in Longford Central, Ballymahon, and the North East Regional supply in Roscommon which failed to rectify elevated THM levels.

The Environmental Protection Agency has expressed concern over the levels of dangerous chemicals in some Longford and Roscommon water supplies.

In it's annual report. the EPA states that 58 public supplies nationwide failed to meet standards in 2021 compared to 30 in 2020.

Irish Water had previously installed treatments in Longford Central, Ballymahon, and the North East Regional supply in Roscommon which failed to rectify elevated THM levels.

Boil Water notices also increased significantly from 2020 into 2021, with one boil water notice in Longford lasting more than a month due to the cloudiness of the water.

However the report does also show that 99.7% of Ireland's drinking water is compliant with safety standards, and over 42,000 lead pipes have been replaced to date.
