Concern after poor drawdown of funds for traveller accommodation by some councils

Longford and Westmeath county councils are among nine local authorities across the country that haven't drawn down any of the €14.5 million euro

Longford and Westmeath county councils are among nine local authorities across the country that haven't drawn down any of the €14.5 million euro budget allocated for Traveller Accommodation this year.

The information is contained in a reply from the Minister for Housing Darragh O' Brien to a Parliamentary Question from Sinn Fein housing spokesperson Eoin O' Broin.

The figures also show that Roscommon, Cavan, Leitrim and Monaghan have drawn down more than €100,000 each.

Eoin O'Broin has said it's worrying that less than half of the available funding has bene availed of so far.

He says he's also deeply concerned that the Minister has moved away from specific allocations to local authorities to deliver urgently needed Traveller accommodation.
