The ESB has published a tender for the demolition of the Lough Ree power station in Lanesboro.
The station, and its sister plant in Shannonbridge in Offaly, are due to shut down at the end of this year.
Bids for the work will be accepted until the 9th of October.
The contract includes for the removal of all structures, buildings and plant components with associated waste disposal as per the stipulations outlined in the planning and environmental regulations for each site.
Earlier this year the Just Transition Comissioner Kieran Mulvey hoped that the power stations wouldn't be demolished and his call was echoed by others including Roscommon Deputy Denis Naughten who asked the then Minister Richard Bruton to make sure the stations would be retained at least in the short term.
Deputy Naughten says he understands the planning conditions surrounding the buildings, but a lot of proposals that are being put forward under Just Transition rely on the stations still being there in the future.
