A Longford Councillor believes that any money or assets seized from criminals in the region should go back to funding local services.
Gerry Warnock received unanimous support for a motion that called for property seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau and that are held until the conclusion of court proceedings, are not sent to central coffers, but retained in the area they are taken from.
A number of high profile CAB raids have taken place in the Shannonside region in the last six months, with hundreds of thousands of euro frozen in assets and bank accounts.
The Independent councillor thinks it would be a huge boost locally if services helping people in areas affected by drugs and crime would themselves benefit from the assets.
