Bord Na Mona criticised on lack of engagement with workers in Lanesboro

Bord Na Mona is coming under renewed criticism for their handling of communications with workers who are losing jobs with the closure of the Lough Ree Power Station in Lanesboro.

News that the station at Lanesboro will stop generating power on the 18th of next month has come as a surprise to Bord Na Mona workers and the general public.

The ESB said today that it's been working towards these dates and that everything is on schedule.

Bord Na Mona has said it's been told about the dates by the ESB and it will update employees affected in due course, but the unions say this is typical of the poor handling of communications by the company.

Union representative Willie Noone says it leaves the Bord Na Mona workers with no reassurance of how much work they can rely on over the weeks coming into Christmas.
