Boat users on Lough Ree urged to be wary of weather conditions

Lough Ree is a beautiful amenity for people all across the region but it can also be a dangerous place if the proper safety measures aren't observed, including being aware of the expected weather conditions for the day

People who intend going out on Lough Ree over the coming days and weeks are being reminded again to be wary of changeable weather conditions.

The warning comes after an incident on the lake yesterday where 7 people had to be rescued from a cruiser that became grounded north of Nun's Island.

Conditions on the lake were poor yesterday but the lifeboat crew was able to reach the scene quickly and tow the vessel to safe water.
