An Athlone woman who suffers from alopecia is welcoming news of a new grant for hair loss sufferers due to illness.
The subsidy has been announced towards hair replacement or wigs for those who suffer hair loss because of illness.
Liz Shiel is the founder of Alopecia Support Ireland and says the new grant will be accessible to most people.
It's worth 500 euro and is expected to support 2,000 men and women in its first year.
It will cover those who've lost hair due to cancer treatment and alopecia.
The local resident says there was very little knowledge or help in Ireland in the late 90's when she was diagnosed and she's glad support is now available.
