A Shannonside school is reaching for the stars today by linking with the International Space Station.
Students at the Athlone Community College have been preparing questions for astronauts for almost a year after being selected for the ARISS programme.
The Amateur Radio on the International Space Station project provides the opportunity to students worldwide to experience talking directly with crew members of the ISS, inspiring them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and maths.
Since February, students at the community college have named a star, designed a space helmet, organised space themed walks, and decorated the school in anticipation of today's event.
Teacher Laura Donnellon says the excitement is building.
