Just under sixty primary schools in the Shannonside region are to be connected to high-speed broadband by the end of 20022.

Ab acceleration of the National Broadband Plan for the education sector has this week been announced by the government - which will see 679 schools connected to fast internet in under two years.

32 schools in Roscommon, 15 in Leitrim and 11 in Longford will all be connected as part of the new roll-out of the NBP.

Some 70 schools across the country in the Intervention Area will become Broadband Connection Points (BCPs), by the end of Q1 2021, receiving 150mb high-speed connectivity for educational access.

The first 25 schools have already been connected, including Ballagh National School in Roscommon.
