The number of people with Covid-19 being treated in intensive care units has reached 200.

The Chief Medical Officer is warning the situation in the country's hospitals is "stark".

The total number of patients with Covid in hospital has risen to 2,023 with 115 admissions in the last 24 hours.

And with 21 new admissions since yesterday to intensive care, the number in ICU has risen to 200.

As of last night, there are 22 adult ICU beds available - and 12 hospitals have no capacity left.

Dr Mary Favier from the Irish College of GPs and member of NPHET says everyone needs to do more to improve the situation.

There's also concern about the level of compliance with the current restrictions.

More than 100 people were given on-the-spot fines in Co Wicklow alone over the weekend for breaking the 5 kilometre travel limit.

Local Councillor Irene Winters is urging people to follow the rules.

The message from the Chief Medical officer is that your chances of getting Covid-19 are now very high.

Dr Tony Holohan has made a particular appeal to workers not to go into the office if they can work from home - and for employers to facilitate that.
