16 people across the Shannonside region are aged 100 or more.
That's according to figures released by the Department of Social Protection.
Ireland has an ageing population - and parts of the Shannonside region have a proven track record of holding some of the country's oldest citizens.
According to the Sunday Independent, Roscommon boasts proportionately more people living to 85 and beyond, particularly around the area of Boyle.
There were a total of 6 people aged 100 or more in Roscommon last year, the oldest of those aged 104.
Meanwhile, the oldest resident in Co. Leitrim last year was 103 - while a total of eight were over the age of 100 in the county.
Co. Longford held the least number of centenarians in the country, with two - they were both aged 102 in 2025.
Nationally, there are 296 people over the age of 100 - 11 of which are 107 years old, or older.
10 of these residents were women.
