The national figure is the highest number of patients on trolleys in one day since the start of the pandemic.

Over 100 people are waiting for beds in hospitals across the Shannonside Northern Sound region.

Today's trolley watch figures from the INMO show 108 people on trolleys or waiting elsewhere for a hospital bed locally.

Nationally over 400 people are waiting for beds today, one of the highest figures in the last two years.

University Hospital Galway has the highest local figures and the second-highest nationwide, with 45 people waiting.

That's followed by Sligo University Hospital where 26 patients are on trolleys currently.

22 people are waiting in the emergency department at the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore.

Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe and Mullingar hospital are dealing with 8 and 7 people waiting respectively, while Cavan General Hospital has no one on trolleys as of this morning.

University Hospital Limerick has the highest national figure today with 69 patients waiting on a bed.
