The final is on in Croke Park at 3.30 this afternoon, with Galway the slight favourites.

After his GAA career, he turned to politics, serving as a Fine Gael TD and senator between 2007 and 2020.

The Kilmovee native led Leitrim to their first Connacht title in 67 years in 1994 and managed Galway to two All-Irelands.

He also managed both Mayo and Galway during his GAA managerial career

Independent Ireland TD Michael Fitzmaurice, who played for Galway minors, says the Tribesman could go on to win their first All-Ireland since 2001.
