There are hopes Frank Feighan's appointment as a junior minister will help to deliver a long-awaited school building for Carrick-on-Shannon - along with the appointment of a West of Ireland education minister, Hildegarde Naughton.
On Tuesday, Deputy Feighan, a Sligo-Leitrim TD, was appointed as a Minister of State at the Department of Public Expenditure and Infrastructure.
Scoil Mhuire in Carrick is struggling with overcrowding, after its pupil numbers doubled in the past decade.
But it still hasn't been sanctioned a new school building.
