Gardai in Westmeath have announced that they intend to increase patrols around the lakes and rivers in the county during July and August.
Under Operation Coinním, there will be increased patrols and public safety initiatives at areas on the banks of Lough Ree and Lough Owel.
A post on the Westmeath Garda Facebook page says that while everyone wants to enjoy the summer, it can also a time where large crowds gather at many wonderful public spaces, drinking and partying and annoying other attendees.

Gardai say that while people are encouraged to enjoy our outdoor spaces during the good weather, they also need to remember that Gardai have a role to play in maintaining our public areas and public order.
