E-scooters to be banned for under 18s

It will also be mandatory for all users to wear helmets and high visibility jackets from August.

All under 18s will be banned from e-scooters from next month under changes agreed by the Government today.

It will also be mandatory for all users to wear helmets and high visibility jackets from August.

Later in the year, e-scooters will be reclassified to fall under the same rules as other mechanically propelled vehicles - which means they'll require a licence and registration.

A total ban is being kept on the table.

Local Cllr Seamus Butler believes greater enforcement is needed:
