Waterways Ireland issues warning over low water levels on local rivers

Waterways Ireland is warning masters of vessels that water levels across the Shannonside region are currently at or below normal levels .

Due to low seasonal rainfall, the River Shannon and the River Erne are lower than usual for this time of the year.

Waterways Ireland have described water levels on the Erne as particularly low, with local canal levels also reduced.

Those taking to the water over the next week are being urged to stay within marked navigation channels, plan passages carefully and adhere to local speed limits.
