Warning over dumping of livestock after sheep carcasses found in Roscommon

The local authority were originally called to the site following reports that the remains of a donkey and pig were found in the stream.

Roscommon County Council is investigating the dumping of livestock in a bog stream near Beal na Mulla.

The local authority received a report earlier today that a dead donkey and pig had been located on land in the Ballynamona Bog, 9 kilometres west of Athlone.

When Enforcement Officers from the environment section of the council attended the scene, they found what appears to be 2 sheep dumped in a stream.

Arrangements are now underway to safely remove the remains from the stream.

The illegal dumping of animal carcasses can cause the spread of disease or water pollution once the remains begin to decompose.
