The vote to see Longford's newest county councillor is expected to come down to the wire as the convention to fill an empty seat is due to take place tonight.
Three candidates are seeking to take the seat left by Fine Gael's Paraic Brady after he was voted onto the Seanad in January.
The local Fine Gael branch in the Granard Municipal District will vote this evening at the convention in Aughnacliffe with up to 160 delegates set to cast their vote.
Cian Brady is the brother of now Senator Paraic Brady and is seeking to keep the seat in the family.
The Drumlish man is active in the local community and involved in the local GAA club.
He's hoping to continue the work done by his Grandmother, father and brother in the seat:
Colin Dalton is also hoping to take the seat after he was unsuccessful in the local election in June of last year.
He was originally co-opted into the seat of now TD Michael Carrigy following his entry into Seanad Eireann in 2020.
He lost out in the local election by a small margin with Fianna Fail's David Cassidy taking the seat.
Colin says that the election result has not stopped his hope to work with the people of Longford.
Granard-based Kathleen McGahern, who was a member of the Longford-Westmeath Education and Training Board, and former Secretary of the Community Employment scheme is the third candidate seeking votes.
Kathleen was approached by Shannonside FM News but was unable to take part in an interview.
