Anyone arriving into Ireland will have to provide a negative PCR test under plans being considered by Government today.

The rule will initially apply to the UK and South Africa, once the travel ban is lifted on Saturday.

The plan is to then extend it to all other countries, effectively sidelining the EU traffic light system for travel.

It will be an offence to arrive into the country without a negative test.
