Visiting restrictions have been put in place at the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise.
It's due to respiratory viral illnesses.
In a statement, management say the facility is currently experiencing a high number of patients with respiratory viral illnesses such as Influenza.
As a precautionary measure, visiting restrictions have been implemented across all hospital departments to help reduce the spread of the virus.
Visiting is restricted on all wards with immediate effect - compassionate and critical visits in exceptional circumstances will be accommodated by contacting the Clinical Nurse Manager or Nurse in Charge of the relevant ward.
Paediatric services (including SBCU) are limited to one parent at a time, there are exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
Maternity services visits are limited to birthing partner only, there are exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
The hospital has apologised for any inconvenience caused and has thanked the public for their understanding and cooperation.
