A meeting to discuss ways to prevent the spread of bluetongue among cows took place at the Department of Agriculture today. A case was confirmed in a cattle herd in County Wexford at the weekend. While the virus doesn't pose any threat to human health or food safety, it is spread among cattle and sheep by midges, Connacht IFA Chairperson Brendan Golden says while this case in unsurprising, it is important to remain vigilant:
