Uisce Éireann is seeking planning permission for a substantial expansion of their waste water treatment capacity in South Longford. The utility has now lodged a planning application for the works at their Ballymahon treatment plant, with the upgrade set to double current capacity. The application contains designs for a generator, solar panels and an ESB Substation building to be used in the event of power loss, thereby ensuring supply can continue.
The plans also include the refurbishment of the existing settlement and storm water tanks, along with waste activated sludge pumping tank and the two existing aeration tanks. The plant would also see an extension to include a grit plant, odour control system and a high level emergency overflow system.
