University Hospital Galway has announced it will begin using AI to enhance the efficiency of its emergency department.
The hospital will use artificial intelligence to generate GP discharge letters from simple voice notes recorded by clinicians.
Emergency Medicine Consultant in UHG, Dr. James Foley, says writing post-discharge letters is one of the most time-consuming tasks in the emergency department and this innovation will help enhance the productivity of its other services.
The system will ensure a human-in-the-loop approach, meaning every letter is reviewed by the responsible clinician before being finalised.
This pioneering study comes as part of the HSE Spark Funding Initiative.
