New research from the Competitions and Consumer Protection Commission reveals one in four people experienced problems while trying to hail a cab, and gave up.

There aren't enough taxi's in the country - with two thirds of people living in rural areas claiming they couldn't get one in December last year.

New research from the Competitions and Consumer Protection Commission reveals one in four people experienced problems while trying to hail a cab, and gave up.

The CCPC is asking the Government to introduce ride-hailing services, where private car owners can act as taxi drivers, subject to regulations.

CCPC Chair, Brian McHugh, says the taxi market needs to be opened up.
