Two men have been arrested following break ins in Longford Town including the attempted burglary of a well known local disability service. Gardaí attended a property in Longford Town on the Battery Road at approximately 1am and arrested a man in his 30s. He was later released and will appear before the Longford District Court at a later date. A short time later, Gardaí were alerted to another incident at St Christopher's Services also on the Battery Road. The suspect is alleged to have entered the administration building on site, setting off an alarm before fleeing the site when security arrived. He was arrested a short time later and is currently being held at Longford Garda Station which is adjacent to St Christopher's.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious between 2am and 3am on the Battery Road area to contact them. St Christopher's Service Chief Executive Declan Kenny says while the incident is unfortunate, it will not impact on service users:
