Irish Rail has announced major upgrade works are set to take place at two local train stations. Parking at Boyle and Edgeworthstown stations will be limited whilst the works are taking place. Iarnród Eireann has confirmed that a major upgrade of Edgeworthstown train station's car park is set to commence this month. Car parking spaces are set to increase from 59 to 81 and will include two age friendly Ireland spaces. The development will also include a new bike shelter, full car park surfacing with all line markings to be replaced, lighting to be installed throughout and a new CCTV system. The project is set to take eight months to complete with Irish Rail saying that there will be a reduction in the number of car parking spaces available, but the car park will remain open throughout.
Meanwhile, accessibility upgrade works have been announced for Boyle train station. The works will see the provision of a new footbridge over the railway, which will feature two 13 person lifts. The development also includes remedial works to platforms, upgrade of lighting adjacent to the station building, significant upgrades to the toilet facilities and the redesign and marking of existing accessible car parking spaces. The works are set be completed in the coming months.
