Two local TDs are among those who gave strong backing in the Dáil for the The Public Health (Tobacco Products and Nicotine Inhaling Products) (Amendment) Bill. It proposes tighter rules on sales, advertising, packaging and access to nicotine products. Both TDs said the legislation is needed to tackle rising nicotine use among children and young people through vaping products. Roscommon-Galway TD Martin Daly warned Ireland was facing a new addiction epidemic driven by youth vaping and nicotine pouches.
Sligo-Leitrim TD Martin Kenny welcomed measures targeting colours, flavours and marketing designed to appeal to children. He also urged ministers to consider adults who use vapes as a means of quitting smoking.
