Fine Gael councillor Domnick Connolly has been elected as the new cathaoirleach of the Athlone Municipal District.
He was appointed at this morning's annual general meeting in the council chamber.
While Independent councillor Emer Kelly was elected as Leas Cathaoirleach.
In the meantime, Fianna Fáil's Sean Moylan is set to be appointed as cathaoirleach of the Boyle Municipal District.
The two new cathaoirligh will each hold the role for one year, and are to be paid €6,000.
