Two local electoral areas in the Shannonside region recorded more deaths than births in 2022. That's according to new data released by the Central Statistics Office. In 2022, 15 out of 166 LEAs experienced a negative natural increase, which is when more deaths are recorded than births. This includes the Boyle LEA in Co. Roscommon and the Ballinamore LEA in Co. Leitrim.
The Ballinamore Local Electoral Area recorded 10 more deaths than births in 2022 whilst there were 6 more recorded in the Boyle Local Electoral Area. Meanwhile the Roscommon LEA recorded the most births in the Shannonside region whilst it also recorded the most deaths.
