Two gardai have appeared in court in Longford charged in connection with corruption-linked offences in the Shannonside region.
They are both serving officers in the Mayo/Roscommon/Longford Garda Division.
At a sitting of Longford District Court today, 42-year-old Garda Brian Carroll, with an address at Ballinaboy, Kilteevan, Co Roscommon, was charged with two offences.
He was charged with disclosing confidential information in Longford town on September 2021, and with attempting to pervert the course of justice by damaging his mobile phone during the lawful search of his home in March 2022.
47-year-old Sergeant James Muldowney, of Greenville, Calta, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, was charged with stealing cash from a property in Ardnacassa, Longford, in September 2021.
He was also charged with attempting to obstruct the course of justice during an incident in Lanesboro Street, Roscommon town, in January 2024.
Detective Sergeant Paul Dowling told the court he arrested the pair on Monday, July 28th, and they were released on station bail.
He said the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed trial on indictment, and he was seeking an eight-week adjournment for the preparation of the book of evidence.
Legal representatives for both parties consented to this.
Judge Michael Connellan remanded both on continuing bail until the October 14th sitting of Longford District Court.
