Two additional speed cameras being rolled out across Leitrim and Roscommon

89 people have lost their lives on roads so far this year.

A number of additional speed cameras are being rolled out across roads in the Shannonside region from next week.

Gardai have confirmed that 61 new safety camera zones will be operational from next Tuesday morning, bringing the total number of zones nationwide to 1,373.

In Leitrim, a new speed van zone is designated on the Castlecara road on the N4 in Carrick-on-Shannon, and in Roscommon, a speed van zone will be in operation on the R362 at Gortnasoolboy.

No new areas are planned for County Longford's road network.

To date in 2022, there have been 89 road deaths, reflecting an increase of 28 over 2021 and 13 to date in 2019.

The new locations were selected following an analysis of collated Garda data acquired from fatal, serious and minor road traffic collisions and from further consideration given to locations of concern highlighted by local communities through local Garda Community engagement.
