Tributes paid to Roscommon man described as 'true pioneer' of New York GAA

Athleague man Terry Connaughton, who also ran a successful restaurant business in The Bronx, passed away on Tuesday.

A Roscommon man, who has been described as 'a true pioneer of New York Ladies GAA', will be laid to rest on Saturday. Athleague man Terry Connaughton, who also ran a successful restaurant business in The Bronx, passed away on Tuesday. He had been named Honorary President of the New York Ladies Board due to his work in promoting Gaelic games there. Mr Connaughton emigrated in 1952 and spent two years in the US Army before serving 20 years in the New York Police Department. He opened the popular Connaughton’s Riverdale Steak House bar and restaurant in the west Bronx in 1979. His funeral will take place this Saturday in St. Margaret of Cortona Church in The Bronx. Cllr Laurence Fallon paid tribute to him this afternoon on Let's Talk:
