Longford Circuit Court has been told a trial will be required in the case of two gardai who are facing a number of corruption-linked charges in the Shannonside region.
They were due to be arraigned today, but the case was adjourned until July.
At a sitting of Longford District Court last August, 42-year-old Garda Brian Carroll, with an address at Ballinaboy, Kilteevan, Co Roscommon, was charged with two offences.
He was charged with disclosing confidential information in Longford town in September 2021, and with attempting to pervert the course of justice by damaging his mobile phone during the lawful search of his home in March 2022.
47-year-old Sergeant James Muldowney, of Greenville, Calta, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, was charged with stealing cash from a property in Ardnacassa, Longford, in September 2021.
He was also charged with attempting to obstruct the course of justice during an incident in Lanesboro Street, Roscommon town, in January 2024.
Both are serving members of An Garda Siochana, attached to Mayo/Roscommon/Longford Garda Division.
The case was listed for arraignment today at Longford Circuit Court.
Barrister Niall Flynn, representing both in court today, said he wasn’t in a position to progress matters, as further disclosure is awaited.
However, he said a trial will be required.
Barrister Stephen Faulkner, for the DPP, said if the matter goes to trial, it will take around three weeks.
Judge Kenneth Connolly adjourned the case until July 7 for mention only, and remanded both on continuing bail until then.
