Transport Infrastructure Ireland is rejecting calls for immediate action on what's been described as 'Roscommon's most dangerous crossroads'.
The state agency says Scramogue Cross is not a high-collision location.
Independent councillor Tom Crosby called for immediate and comprehensive safety measures at Scramogue Cross, near Strokestown.
He says there are inadequate signs and road-markings, and no public lighting.
Those claims have been rejected today by TII, in a response read out at today's Roscommon County Council meeting.
The agency says it's not a high-collision location, according to an assessment of crashes between 2014 and 2024.
It says there were only three minor-injury collisions, all of which happened during daylight hours, and 12 material-damage collisions, with eight occurring during daytime hours.
It says there were no fatalities or serious injuries during the 11 years in question.
TII says the road-markings and signage is consistent with current requirements.
But it does say further improvements are planned at this junction as part of the ongoing N5 upgrade between Ballaghaderreen and Scramogue, scheduled to open at the end of 2027.
TII rejected calls for public lighting at the crossroads, again saying it's not a high-collision location.
