Thunderstorm warning for local counties this evening

A status yellow thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Shannonside region.

According to Met Eireann, local thunderstorms and lightning strikes are expected in Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon.

The warning came into place this afternoon and will last to 9 o'clock tonight.

Other areas covered by the warning include Cavan, Donegal, Sligo, Westmeath and Galway.

Motorists are being urged to drive with caution as the forecast weather will be expected to cause poor driving conditions.
