Three people in the Shannonside region shortlisted for Volunteer Ireland Awards

The awards take place next month.

Three volunteers from across the Shannonside region have been shortlisted for their outstanding community work at this year's Volunteer Ireland Awards.

Longford's Majella Beattie is nominated for her work with CARE Champions, an advocacy group for older people and residents in care homes.

During Covid-19 Majella set up a dedicated phone line for bereaved families and frontline staff.

In Roscommon, Joe Cribbin has been shortlisted in the social inclusion and community category for his contribution to Ballyleague Men’s Shed, Cloontuskert Tidy Towns, and Ballyleague Tidy Towns.

Shirley Hewston from Manorhamilton is nominated for her dedication to the 40th girl's brigade, creating a weekly programme of activities for young girls in the community.

The awards, which are recognised by President Michael D. Higgins take place next month.
