It's hoped the building to house the new MRI scanner at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar will be operational by October next year.
The HSE says it is issuing tenders for the construction of the building later this month.
It's expected that a preferred contractor will be selected by December and an be on site in January.

The Friends of Mullingar group has raised over 950,000 euro for the machine.
