Despite a shortage of taxi's there is, on average, a 226-day wait for the licenses to issue.

Taxi drivers are waiting up to 8 months to get their licences.

Despite a shortage of taxi's there is a 226-day wait, on average, between passing an S-P-S-V skills test and a licence being issued.

TDs are calling for more funding to be allocated to the National Transport Authorities' Carriage Office to deal with the backlog.

Fine Gael Deputy Emer Higgins says it comes at a time when drivers are needed:

I think we all know that there is a shortage of taxis, I think most people are noticing it.

It's a real problem in cities where people are struggling to get a taxi after a night out.

Even people trying to pre-book a taxi for something like an airport run are having trouble.
